Godavari – A Short Film on Kumbh Mela 2015
According to an alarming statistics presented by the World Health Organization (WHO), out of India’s 3119 towns only 209 have partial sewage treatment facilities. And what will lead us to soon hit the panic button is the fact that hundreds of cities dump untreated sewage in to the Ganges River. Not only the Ganges but a lot of rivers are exposed to pollution from various sources such as industrial waste, chemicals, fertilizers and pesticides from agricultural activities and even foods that carry physical garbage and other land pollutants and gush them int the nearby by rivers thereby further polluting them. No wonder pollution has been cited as one of the major environmental concerns looming over our country.
Our very own Godavari too has been plunked with garbage and other dangerous pollutants and around eight documentaries raising awareness about pollution of Godavari were recently screened at Kusumagraj Pratishthan. One of the documentaries was Godavari – A Short Film on Kumbh Mela 2015. Its is a hair-raising documentary that threw light on the issue of river pollution and how that we need to open our eyes to what is happening to Godavari. All these documentaries were selected at the state-level competition and are a part of the Green Kumbh for Kumbh Mela 2015. Actors, government officials and social activists attended the screening.
The rights of the documentary films will be with the government authorities and will be shown at railway stations, bus stations, cinema-halls, on the NMC’s official website and through social media.
The documentary titled Godavari – A Short Film on Kumbh Mela 2015 will indeed help raise awareness among city folks and Pg3 Nashik sincerely hopes that it wakes people up from their deep slumber and that Nashik someday wakes up to a cleaner and pollution free Godavari.
