Its Football Fever!! – Playing to the tunes
The title of this article says it all. We at Page 3 Nashik are going to give you an insight on this years FIFA anthem and theme songs.
From 1962, theme songs/anthems have been officially adopted in the FIFA World Cup. These songs are to be used as warm ups to the event.to accompany the championships during the on-going event and also as a souvenir reminder of the events. These theme songs are not only used for advertising campaigns but they also give the singers universal coverage. The whole point of a football national anthem is meant to pro
pel a nation into glory.
This year we sure are going to miss the sound of Vuvuzelas (vuvuzela – plastic horn which produces low monotone sound) . They have been banned officially from the World Cup this year.So one can assume that there will be a lot of musical phenomenon. The official FIFA anthem for 2014 World Cup is ‘ Ole Ole – We are one’ sung by Pitbul which also features Jennifer Lopez (watch the video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGtWWb9emYI_) . The minute we talk about FIFA World Cup anthems the first song that comes to our mind is ‘Waka Waka- Its Time for Africa’ by Shakira. How can we forget ‘La Opa De La vida – the cup of life ‘ song by Ricky Martin for the 1998 World Cup.
Though the previous anthem ‘Waka Waka ‘ by Shakira was a huge hit, the same cannot be said about ‘Ole Ole – We are one’ song which also features Brazilian pop sensation Claudia Leitte. This music video has been receiving major backlash for its noisy and mostly English lyrics. There is no Portugese flavour in the song. Leitte sings only a few seconds in the end of the song in Portugese. Shakira has also relesed a song called ‘La La La- Dare’ (watch the video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-7knsP2n5w ) which is a part of the FIFA World Cup Official Album but it is not this years theme song. This is the song that has struck the right chord with fans. This music video features players like Gerard Pique and Lionel Messi.
Brazilian fans feel that the 2014 anthem has been stripped of its local colour. Brazilian musical tradition is admired all over the world. It has been felt that this anthem doesn’t do enough justice for the nations Bossa nova crazed audiences. For the 25 minute opening ceremony which is on 12th July at Sao Paulo, Pitbul will be performing the anthem only with Claudia. Jennifer Lopez had dropped out from performing in the opening ceremony due to unspecified production issues, but reverted back today saying that she will be performing at the opening ceremony. Other celebrities like Beyonce , Shakira and Paul McCartney will also be performing at the opening ceremony which will take place before Brazil play Croatia in the first World Cup 2014 match.
Do let us know which is your favourite song of the FIFA World Cup this year. Is it ‘ Ole Ole – We are one’ sung by Pitbul or ‘La La La- Dare’ by Shakira.
