ENVIRONMENT AWARENESS DRIVE BY CYCLE RACE
Several tribal children and youths from Nashik district took part in a cycle race with the motive to spread the message of conservation of environment. They appealed people to take care of the nature and also took oath to work for conservation of birds, animals, trees, and even the heritage.
The race was organised by Shivkarya Gadkot Mohim and Nature Club especially for the children and youths from tribal areas. Several youths and children from Thanapada, Devdongra and other areas took part in it. Grampanchayat member Ramesh Pawar flagged off the race at Devdongra. Rajendra Awari completed the five kilometers” distance – till Boripada- in 13 minutes 12 seconds. Hemraj Pradhan came second and Hemant Shivre came third. Vikas Gumbade, Sandip Gumbade, Ramchandra Pagi won the consolation prizes. Winners were felicitated at Thanapada, at the base of Khairai fort in Trimbak tehsil.
The felicitation ceremony started with a folk programme performed by Kharshet-based folk artists. He narrated the efforts taken to conserve the forts in Nashik district. “Rural folk art, tribal traditions, fairs, pilgrimages, celebrations like Bohade and many other aspects of the culture should be conserved forever and we all should take efforts for it. Organiser professor Anand Bora gave information about the nature conservation and other living things such as animals and birds. “Human acts like use of nylon thread for flying kites, hurt birds and many of the injured birds die due to such incidents. So it is our responsibility to save birds by avoiding such things,” he appealed.
Devdongra School principal Mahadu Swami and Thanpada”s social worker Chintaman Budhar were felicitated for their works.
Such awareness drive would definately create environmental awareness in the city and people will take care of the environment as their own home it is.
