The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) launches a cleanliness drive from today, 27 January 2014 at 25 sites across seven wards on a trial basis.

c1910083The drive commenced with an awareness camp, although it was scheduled to start from February 1. The Non-governmental organization- Amulya had been appointed by the civic body to fine litterers. Permission from the mayor for this drive was taken to begin from 26th January 2014 as one week is sufficient for this. But the permission to put this drive into being was granted from 27th January as 26th January was a National holiday. The NGO had invited the wrath of corporators and citizens. Amulya has now decided to revamp its system and will appoint 70 people for this experimental drive. Ward 13, 18, 30, 39, 40, 53 and 59 have been selected for the cleanliness drive.

This activity will be carried in several Prabhags as the NMC requested. NMC employees, respective corporators and 10 Amulya Volunteers will be present at each of the seven wards to spread awareness. Amulya Volunteers and NMC sanitary employees posted from 6.30 am to 10.30 am and from 4.30 pm to 10.30 pm. 25 locations across seven wards will be kept under a watch for ten days on garbage-prone areas. Awareness among people will be created and warn people of strict action against littering. After ten days the litterers will be fined.

This kind of awareness drive would help the citizens to maintain cleanliness of the city and keep Nashik a clean healthy city.
