The Election Commission of India has focused on increasing voters’ participation, especially of youths, in the General Elections of Lok Sabha this year. Accordingly, it has proposed innovative exercises under the special programme for Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) and directed all the district administrations to conduct the activities. On this ground, for the first time in Nashik, the district administration urged the youths to vote through a Flash Mob performance on Friday evening. Over 100 youth participated in this Flash Mob that performed at HPT College Circle on College Road in the city to increase awareness about electoral process among young voters. EC’s Micro Observer Shubha Gupta, Resident Deputy District Collector Jitendra Kakuste, District Planning Officer and Nodal Officer for SVEEP Pradip Potdar, Nashik Zilla Parishad Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Randheer Somwanshi and others with youths and residents in the area were present on the occasion. The district administration has taken up an awareness programme to ensure greater participation of individuals in the polling process at the time of elections. The officials say that polling percentage has to be increased in cities, towns and villages by educating people about the procedure. During the programme, youth took pledge to vote and also promised to participate in the voting process through signature campaign.
