Wockhardt Hospitals Nashik, will celebrate World Kidney Day to increase awareness about kidney diseases and how to take care of the kidney. Every year, World Kidney Day is celebrated on the second Thursday in March. The mission of this day is to raise awareness of the importance of kidneys for overall health. Thus, the hospital has started a ‘kidney check camp package’ on the occasion. About 1 in 10 people have some degree of kidney disease. It can develop at any age and various conditions can lead to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). It, however, becomes more common with increasing age. After the age of 40, kidney filtration begins to fall by approximately 1 per cent per year. Apart from the natural aging of the kidneys, many conditions that damage the kidneys are more common in older population, including diabetes.
The hospital in Nashik has successfully undertaken 14 kidney transplants (KT) including for international patients; 38667 dialysis; a total of 5842 kidney patients till date have been treated here. It boasts of having become a place advanced treatment for kidney diseases in North Maharashtra under the guidance of consultant Nephrologist Dr Nagesh Aghor.
This year’s attention is on CKD and aging. Considering that with age kidney diseases increase, one has to start taking care of the organ at the right time. As a responsible organisation, for Nasikites, Wockhardt Hospitals has launched the ‘kidney check camp package’ for Rs 799. The package includes CBC, urine routine, urea, creatinine, random blood sugar, serum uric acid, serum calcium, USG, and consultation with Nephrologists, which ideally costs around Rs 1950.
Dr Aghor said that about one in five men and one in four women between the ages of 65 and 74 years and half of people aged 75 or more have CKD. In short, the older you get the more likely you are to have some degree of kidney disease. This is important because CKD increases with the increasing risk of heart attack and stroke, and in some cases can progress to kidney failure requiring dialysis or transplantation.
Kidney diseases can be serious, but early detection and good management can increase the life of your kidneys. Dr Nagesh Aghor appealed that ‘those who have diabetes and blood pressure should check up at least once in the year’ to keep your kidney healthy.
