Nashik Road Head Post office starts core Banking in Division
Nashik Road head post office has became the first post office in the Nashik division to switch over to the core banking system of the postal department.
The switch-over was held over a simple ceremony at the Nashik Road post office on Monday last week in the presence of senior superintendent of Post office Nashik division, N S Wankhede, assistant superintendent Pankaj Kulkarni and post master of the Nashik Road head post office B S Khadilkar.
Wankhede said even the divisional office of the postal department would be linked with internet core banking system within a month and by the end of this year, all offices coming under the Nashik division would be connected.
A separate table has been set up at the Nashik Road post office for the service. Khadilkar said they would soon start an ATM kiosk at the head post office for the customers’ convenience.
With this, the customers of the Nashik Road post office can now do all necessary transactions like depositing or withdrawing money from any post office connected to the core banking solution.
There are about 2.53 lakh account holders with the Nashik Road head post office. All the account holders are being given a new 10-digit account number. Khadilkar said they have put up a board at the post office to appeal to the account holders about the shifting to the core banking system and the ensuing need to get the new account number.
Wankhede said this was a major step in Nashik division considering that there were around 7 lakh customers of the postal department and within a couple of months, all would be linked with the core banking solution of the postal department.
Wankhede said over 200 people have taken benefit of the new scheme.
Officials said there were various types of accounts and with the new system in place, the post office customers could avail of all kinds of services online. For this, a new software has been introduced. Wankhede said, “We are constantly working on various schemes to make the services of the postal department more popular. From Navaratri, we also started a service to the customers of providing them prashad of Mahalaxmi in Kolhapur for Rs 80. A customer gets a photo of Goddess Mahalaxmi, prashad, haldi and kumkum. Once a devotee deposits the money with the post office, the trust of the Mahalaxmi temple is intimated and the parcel of prasad and other articles is sent by speed post.”
