Under the scheme of the woman and child welfare department, 500 bicycles beneficiaries have been shortlisted by the education department of NMC. The students studying in high schools of NMC and majorly the one’s whose habitat is beyond the radius of 3 Kms from their respective schools will be given these bicycles.
After the NMC asked the principals of these schools to make a list of children who fit in this category, 500 students were listed and these many will be benefiting from this scheme. A provision of Rs. 35 lakh has been allocated to distribute the bicycles.
To this the Deputy municipal commissioner (education) Dattatreya Gotise, who is also the administrative in-charge of the woman and child welfare department, said, “There are around 500 girl students in the NMC’s high schools. We are in the process of completing the formalities and in November, we will be handing over the bicycles to the beneficiaries.”
Almost all the formalities have been completed and put in action. Once the documentation is signed the purchasing and distribution of the bicycles will be processed. Girl students can benefit with the proposed activity both in physical and mental aspects.
