Leopard enters housing society at Nashik’s Upnagar area, is captured alive
A two-year-old leopard was found inside Ashwin Society in Upnagar on Nashik Road. The leopard was first sighted near a bungalow named Janavi at 7 am in the morning on Thursday. The residents immediately contacted the Upnagar police station following which a team of 12 people from the forest department arrived at the spot at 9.45 am.
The leopard was captured alive. Forest officials believe that it came from an adjacent sugarcane farm.
“This was a risky operation. The leopard was found in the corridor of a bungalow. Since it was a residential area, it was very important to catch him as early as possible. There was the risk of the animal attacking those living in the area. We captured him after injecting him with a sedative,” said Prashant Khairnar, range forest officer, Nashik. The entire operation took two hours to complete.
