Nasik police has suspended all mobile internet and bulk sms services after violent protests over alleged rape of minor girl, the media reported on Tuesday.
On Saturday, a 15-year old boy allegedly raped the girl.
Angry protesters took to streets and torched several bus and traffic was paralysed for nearly eight hours in Vilholi near Nashik on Sunday evening, reports said. (Read: Today, I was there when people where throwing stone)
Nine state transport buses were torched along with three other vehicles,including a police-van, Times of India reported.
The incident also left 20 policemen injured
A case of rape has been registered by Trimbakeshwar police based on the complaint of the victim’s mother.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis promised strict action against the teenager.
“The case will be tried in a fast track court. People are trying to spreading rumours after the incident, which are false. People should maintain law and order and not believe in the rumours being spread,” he was quoted as saying by the daily.”
To control rumours in the city, Mobile internet is suspended until further notice. However, Landline Internet is still working in town.
