Motorists heading towards Nashik from Mumbai will have to take a detour from Majiwada-Balkum to Kasheli as the Mumbai-Nashik arm will remain shut for the next two weeks to carry out repairs on Saket bridge, traffic officials said on Monday.

The second phase of repairs will begin from Tuesday morning and all north-bound traffic will be diverted, said DCP (traffic) Rashmi Karandikar. The 200-metre Saket bridge, connecting Mumbai-Nashik highway, will have one lane open for Mumbai-bound traffic.

The 33-year-old bridge suffered major wear and tear over the years.

The carriageway from Mumbai to Nashik will be shut for traffic from Lodha till Kharegaon toll naka. However, half the bridge will be open, which is two lanes from Nashik to Mumbai.

Heavy vehicles from Ghodbunder Road will have to take a right from Kapurbawadi and go from Balkum towards Kasheli. Also, traffic officials have requested citizens not to park their vehicles along the road as it will lead to snarls and cause even more inconvenience to motorists.
