After a survey of airservice potentials of the city, Nashik Industries & Manufacturers’ Association (NIMA) has decided to approach airline operators and union civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju in a couple of weeks.
The decision comes following a survey of air service potentials of Nashik that suggests around 21,000 industry people from the city travel by air to other destinations in a year. It means 60 people on an average from Nashik travel by air per day. Maximum people fly to Bangalore followed by Delhi and Chennai. Hence, NIMA has decided to approach the airline operators along with data of survey and urge them to commence with at least Nashik-Bangalore flight.
NIMA vice-president Mangesh Patankar, said, “The survey shows there is a potential for air service in Nashik. Maximum people travel to Bangalore and Delhi. The large industries like Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Bosch and other several large industries have either their headquarters or offices there. Hence, Nashik-Bangalore flight can be a successful flight from Nashik. Hence, we are making efforts to approach the airline operators like Air India, Go Air, Jet Airways, Sovika Aviation. We will provide them the total data of our survey and will urge them to commence air service from here.”
He added :
We will approach these airline operators immediately may be within couple of weeks. Before that, we are meeting civil aviation minister and will ask him to help us commence air services from Nashik.
Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had also recently urged the union aviation ministry to commence air service from Ozar Nashik airport, near Nashik. Parrikar had sent a letter to the union civil aviation minister Raju in July.
The air service from Nashik is waiting to take off for the past six-seven years. The airport terminal is also ready, but without an air service. Alliance Air of Air India had proposed Mumbai-Nashik flight in May, but the air service from Nashik had been grounded after GVK denied slots to Alliance Air due to lack of space. Hence, NIMA had taken initiative to conduct survey to find out potential of air service from the city.
