What is it that a woman can’t do? You challenge her and there she is proving her mettle. This time she surprised herself by trying something totally different. Sarvangi Sarees organized York Women’s rally on Sunday 7th December, 2014 at 8 a.m. Honorable MLA member, Mrs. Shreematai Hire, flagged off the rally. The rally started from Sarvangi Sarees on College Road and ended on York Winery. The only motto of the rally was to celebrate the spirit of womanhood and for the women to explore new horizons for Motorsports.

It started off with tremendously high energy levels among 35 participants, out which 50% of the members were participants from last year’s rally. It was an all together a new experience for the fresher participants and this aggregated the enthusiasm of the entire crew of the rally. The fun element of the rally was that you could participate and win the rally with any vehicle, be it a Ferrari or a simple Maruti 800. Also, women of any age group were welcomed, so older women with their daughters were seen participating at the rally. Western India Sports Association (WISA) took the initiative to conduct this rally. WISA was formed in 2008 with the commodity from adventure sports mainly from common platform of motor sports and have been always supported by print and electronic media.

Most of the women participants read about the rally in newspapers and other participants got to know about the rally through their friends. These women had to first register their names and vehicles at the WISA office for the rally. The documents of the participants were verified and vehicle was scrutinized during the flag off. Since Mrs. Shreematai Hire was a participant in last year’s rally, she was the chief guest for the rally and consequently flagged off the first vehicle from Sarvangi Sarees on College Road. Mrs. Hire conveyed her best wishes to the participants and gave some essential tips to the participants present at the rally. Other guests that had graced the flag off ceremony during the rally were Sanjay Jindal from RED FM and Krishna Bhandage from Sarvangi Sarees.

Once the rally had begun, the cars and bikes travelled in a parade to College Road, via Gangagpur Road, which was just an indication of the spirit of womanhood to the world. The vehicles then reported back to the Sarvangi Sarees venue to finally begin with the competition.  Most of the vehicles were decorated with slogans or a social message like “Proid to be a woman” or “Save the girl child” .The vehicles travelled around the city and the suburbs of the city as a part of the competition. The gusto and the competitive spirit among the ladies had reached its peak then. It was a pleasure to watch them compete with each other. Among the participants were Anjali Gangawane and Savita Patil, who were last year’s rally winners; while some of them were doctors too. One of the participants, named Angel Swanson, was from USA. She said “I was on vacation in Nashik when I got to know about this interesting rally. I was keen on participating in a women’s rally and too a sports rally!! I had a great experience driving through the roads for the rally” Among the bike riders, one of them was an experienced one and the rest were freshers.

The rally finally ended at York Winery with so much of enthusiasm floating in the air. We could spot delighted faces of the winners and faces full of contentment of the other competitors. The same day results were announced and prize distribution ceremony was conducted at York Winery.

The rally was a huge success in Nashik. It was a proud moment for the Sarvangi Sarees as the organizers and York Winery to conduct the rally successfully. The competitors and spectators had a phenomenal experience to compete in the rally and to watch the rally. As very well said by Kobi Yamada “She turned her can’t into can and her dreams into plans”. A woman is an amalgamation of power and beauty. We salute to women of Nashik and cheers to their spirit of womanhood!!
