Soon a separate lane for palkhi on Nashik-Shirdi road

A 51-km stretch of Nashik-Shirdi road is set to turn into a four-lane route using another lane for pilgrims on foot with ‘palkhis’.

{The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has floated tenders to expand the 51-km stretch of NH-160 involving Sinnar and Shirdi Sai Baba Temple in the present two lanes. |} It’ll be updated on design, construct, operate and transfer (hybrid{ annuity|}) basis. The final date to record bids for the project is February 19.

This stretch of the highway is used by lakhs of devotees during the entire year. The officers have, therefore, {included|added} a separate lane for pilgrims on foot with ‘palkhis’ at the street widening plan.

Based on NHAI sources, the job involves property acquisition in 19 villages in Nashik City district and six in Ahmednagar district. The combined dimension for identifying the property that would be obtained was finished in 16 villages. The exercise is on in the rest of the villages,” explained NHAI officials.

Sources in the district government said the government are confronting resistance in five villages from Nashik into the joint measurement practice. {In Ahmednagar, three villages are conflicting the exercise.|}

Officials stated that the job of road widening can be initiated prior to the onset of monsoon only as long as the property acquisition process in finished before March this year.

In a statement issued at the Press Information Bureau site on February 2, NHAI has supplied details of their bids that it’s spanned for various road projects throughout the nation. The Sinnar-Shirdi stretch is among those projects mentioned in the announcement.

Last month, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had led the Nashik district government to hasten the property acquisition procedure.
