Preparations made to celebrate Ram Navami
Devotees across Nashik city and district have made huge preparations to celebrate Ram Navami, the festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ram, the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The day falls on the ‘Navami’, ninth day of the Chaitra month of Hindu lunar year in ‘Shukla Paksha’ or waxing moon, thus named Chaitra Masa Sukla Paksha Navami, which marks the end of nine-day Chaitra-Navratri celebrations. Though Ram Navami is a major festival for Vaishnavites, it is widely celebrated also by worshippers of Lord Shiva across the country. The main significance behind the celebration of this festival is that the character of Lord Ram signifies an ideal son, an upright husband, a righteous King, and a loving brother and even an ideal man, someone who follows the right path against all odds in life. He was also the true embodiment of humanity. In Nashik, where Lord Ram stayed at Panchavati during his 14-year exile, the festival is celebrated in a grand way each year. Shri Kalaram temple, one of the largest and renowned temples of Lord Ram across the state, celebrates the birth of Lord Ram on grand scale every year. Kala Ram is regarded as gramadaivat, the deity of the town. This year also, huge preparations have been made to celebrate the festival. This year, Mukundbuva Pujari will perform the Mahapuja on Ram Navami. The Mahapuja will begin at 7.00 am. ‘Kakad Aarti’ performed at 5.00 am. The birth of the Lord celebrated at 12.00 pm. After the Mahaarati at 12.00 pm, the curtain in the sanctum sanctorum be removed and devotees can take Darshan of the Lord. The Lord will be offered Nevaidya (holy meal) of ‘Shrikhand’ and ‘Panjari’ (a special ‘Prasad’ made for Ram Navami). ‘Mahanevaidya’ will be offered to the God at 8.00 pm. Considering the huge number of devotees visiting the temple on the auspicious occasion, the Temple Trust and police have made elaborate arrangements. Entry will be given from the Eastern gate of the temple whereas the exit arrangement has been made from the southern gate. Panchavati police will maintain adequate police bandobast on the occasion.
