Voters’ registration drive from May 29 again

The State Election Commission has taken cognisance of the complaints regarding names missing from the voters’ list during the Lok Sabha election and decided to implement continuous voter registration process from May 29.
Along with registering new voters, the names of those voters which are missing from the voters lists will be included in the list after taking the necessary evidences and documents from them.
During the voters’ list review drive implemented by the Election Commission last year, names of the voters who were not found on the given addresses of their home, those who did not have their photographs in the voters’ list and those whose names had featured twice and those who had passed away were removed from the list on large scale.
As a result, names of many voters were not found in the centerwise list. Many voters who had ventured out of their homes for voting during the Lok Sabha election had complained that their names were missing from the list.As a petition about the issue had been filed in the High Court and the complaint was registered with the Election Commission of India (ECI), order of inquiry in the matter was given.
During the hearing of the petition regarding the issue, the court had given instructions that the names of living voters should not be removed from the voters’ list and who could not vote for the Lok Sabha election should get the opportunity to exercise their franchise in state assembly election.
Accordingly, the state Election Commission has given orders to all district collectors to implement the voters’ registration drive from May 29.
During the drive, arrangement for the voters” registration has been made in the Voter Help Center at the respective legislative assembly constituency headquarters. Those who have completed 18 years of age and those whose names are not there in the voters list can register their names during the drive.
However, prior to that, the voters should confirm it whether their names do or do not feature in the voters” list kept at the voter help center.
