The oldest theatre of Nashik completes 100 years. Its none other than Vijayanand theatre which has successfully completed 100 years in Nashik on Saturday. The theatre was established by late Shankarsheth Chumble in 1906 and gained popularity when British officer and magistrate of Nashik, Arthur Jackson, was assassinated by Anant Kanhere in 1909 here during a show.
Director of Vijayanand theatre Vinaykumar Chumbale called for a grand celebration to mark the centenary of the theatre at JCI Ambad where Jc Chaitanya Bhujang, Jc Pramod Wagh, Jc Dhananjay Ahire, Jc Chetan Bamb, Jc Mehul Thorat and Jc Chetan Patil took efforts for the success of the event. The operating staff of the theatre was felicitated by Chumbale at the programme.
At the event, the directors — Vinaykumar Chumble and Bharat Chumble — recalled some memories right since the foundation of the theatre. The oldest theatre of Nashik has successfully provided a platform to various activities including films, dramas, plays and puppet shows.
Recently, the theatre also received the ‘Oldest Exhibitor in India’ award from the Tamil Nadu government.
Vijayanand, today, holds a historical place in Indian cinema, blessed by footprints of countless Bollywood, Hollywood, Tollywood, Mollywood artists, singers and directors. It is also the first theatre of Nashik to showcase the first Indian film ‘Raja Harishchandra’ made by Dadasaheb Phalke. Since then the theatre has successfully showcased more than 1,000 movies and continues to screen all blockbusters of the Indian film industry.
