highc277b319-70f6-48b7-8010-7f3e1afb33e1The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) gave approval for converting the Nashik-Peth-Pardi highway into National highway. The union government has adopted a policiy under which it has decided to convert the roads in the remote and hilly areas into national highways. Accordingly, as per the policy the Nashik-Peth highway will be converted in NH and will be connected to Balsada highway. The NHAI will develop the 54 km portion falling in Maharashtra and 65 km portion falling in Gujarat states and will develop the entire 119 km stretch as NH-848. The new highway will benefit the devotees, traders, tourists and other commuters of both the states. The union minister of state for road transport and highways Dr Tushar Choudhari had earlier assured to transform the Nashik-Peth highway into national highway.

So far Nashik had received Rs 105.86 crore funds from the central road fund. The union government will sanction funds in the forthcoming union budget. The unavailability of funds have not made any adverse impact on the ongoing development works. At present the concerned authorities are completing their projects from their own funds. Taking stock of the issue of land acquisition for Sadhugram, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) should take necessary steps in this regard.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has never tried to obstruct any works of the NMC. On the contrary NCP has fought for NMC to get sanctioned many funds. Such a amendment by NMC would prove beneficial for Nashik.
