Preparations for 2014 have already begun. An immediate celebration in the 1st month of the year ‘Makar Sankranti’ is one of the most colorful events of the year. Considering the mishaps in the last year, District collector Vilas Patil issued an order for the ban on the production and use of nylon string popularly known as ‘Nylon Manja’.
Last year many cases which disturbed the environment were observed during Makar Sankranti. To this one of the officials exclaimed,” The nylon thread is dangerous for birds and there are scores of incidents, when birds get entangled in the thread and are injured and even killed. Hence the prohibitory orders.
The memorandum was presented on Tuesday to the commissioner of police, the municipal commissioner and the collector of Nashik who also gave their consent. The prohibition is restricted in the city areas only. “The city has dense population and the kite flying is cherished by the citizens as a result there are more numbers of kite flyers in the city as compared to rural areas and hence the ban or prohibitory orders should include Nashik city as well,” demanded Jagbir Singh, one of the volunteers who presented the memorandum demanding the ban on nylon thread in kite flying, to Collector of Nashik on Tuesday.
Sources reveal that officials have taken the memorandum into consideration and the ban on the use of nylon string during Makar Sankranti would be announced very soon.
