SATYAGRAHA – Movie Review
Satyagragraha is a political thriller casting Bollywood megastars Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan and Kareena Kapoor. Prakash Jha, the director of the film has tried to portray a story of a revolution of the middle-class against a corrupt system and a broken system.
The film also stars Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpayee and Amrita Rao in lead roles and is produced by UTV Motion pictures. As the name suggests, the movie is inspired by the Gandhi’s movement of non-violence. But it fails to look neither realistic nor entertaining.
We regret to inform the audiences that boredom can be fatal and Satyagraha moves on the same lines. While Amitabh Bachchan is a firm believer of truth, Manoj Bajpayee plays as one of the corrupt ministers. Both the megastars wear the skin of the characters and play it easily. On the other hand, the lady charm has not really worked for this flick. Kareena Kapoor has not only acted, instead has over-acted. She seems to be carried away and works more as an entertainer than a reporter in the movie. While Amrita, who is playing the daughter of the legend Amitabh Bachchan is a modern, educated professor but her role is not worth talking.
The movie is a mélange of old concepts and works on already tried and tested formulae. What does not work for this movie is the item number which contradicts the seriousness. What we can conclude after watching this movie is that not always strong characters make the movie strong. The 152 minutes are poorly crafted and disappoints the viewers.
