Vishwas Thakur is the Founder Chairman of Vishwas Co-op Bank Ltd., a Bank that thrives on creating and maintaining customer delight. Being the youngest Founder Chairman in the Indian Co-operative Banking sector at a young age of 27 years is a unique distinction in itself. To this day, he continues his relentless work in assisting the Central Government, State Government and 40 different local committees.
Here are some excerpts of the interview with man who made it big at such an young age:-
Q: Tell us in brief who Vishwas Thakur is.
A: I have obtained a masters degree in communication and journalism from Pune University. Since my college days, I was inclined towards participating and organising social, cultural, academic and sports activities.
Q: What was the main goal to set up a bank?
A: Main goal of setting up this bank was that a common man should enjoy banking with ease. I wanted to create a bank that thrives on creating and maintaining customer delight. Being first generation entrepreneur I have always nurtured a dream of offering banking facilities to the common man in most lucid and comfortable manner.
Q: As founder of Vishwas co-operative bank, what are your main objectives?
A: Being the founder of this bank, I persistently work in finding the best and easy customer services for our valued customers. A perfect administrator needs to blend bank’s development through elite customer service coupled with appropriate technology adoption for growth and development of bank.
Q: How is your rapport with your staff and Colleagues?
A: Problem solving an important attribute of mine, which helps in one-to-one communication with staff and colleagues. Perfect and harmonious interpersonal relations are developed with staff and a common fibre of bondage is visible in Bank.
Q: How has your degree in Communication and Journalism helped in building or promoting your bank’s services?
A: Being post graduate in communications and journalism has been an added advantage in portraying Banks services in the simplest yet effective manner to appeal even to the smallest segment of the society. This coupled with perfect marketing skill helped to further expand the banking business. Being a social personality has also helped in developing significant network in virtually every walk of life. Being a media person, I have used the communication channels to promote development and cultural activities and done face upliftment for co-operative banking industry in India.
Q: What makes your bank the main trusted bank?
A: Persistence, integrity, trust and Satisfaction are the foundation pillars of Vishwas co-op Bank. With our persistent hard work and customer centric integrity, we build trust and satisfaction amongst our valued customers. On Social front, our bank has always been active, like providing financial aid to self help groups, to providing medical aid to Malegaon riot hit families etc.
Q: What all other business ventures you have?
A: Along with banking some of the business ventures which I have are :
- Ruchita Enterprises, Nasik (Partner):The company is leading cement stockiest based in Nasik for companies like Ambuja, ACC and Orient Cement.2. Vishwas Thakur Land Developers and Builders, Nasik (Proprietor): The company deals with land, property and building construction in Nasik and surrounding areas.3. Kadambini Tours & Travels: Franchisee of SOTC Holiday Outlet for the Nashik District.4. Mandar Communications, Nasik (Proprietor): The business centre offers utility services like STD, ISD, Fax, Travel booking, Couriers, Photocopying, etc and is located at a prime location of Nasik.
Q: Let people know something about your achievements and social work.
A: Some of my suggestions regarding better functioning of urban co-opertaive banks were accepted by Mr. Bimal Jalan (Ex- Governor of RBI). Under “Suvarna Jayanti Shahari Rojgar Yojana” financial assistance to self help groups of below poverty line women is being provided. Financial support and medical aid was given to riot affected families in Malegaon. Basic amenities were provided to Ramabai Ambedkar Girls hostel, Finacial assistance to National Association of Blind (NAB) are some of social work with which my bank is closely associated with.
Q: You are felicitated for your works. Tell us something about it.
A: I have received “Sanskriti Vaibhav Award” for being youngest ever founder chairman of an urban co-operative bank, “Pragati Darshak Din Gun Gaurav(Banking Field), Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini National Award in Nov 2000, Yuva Ratna Award in May 2005, Prabhodhan Award in April 2005, Sanskriti Sanman Award in 2009, Godaratna Purskar in 2010, Business Excellence Award in 2012 are some of the awards which I have received till now.
Q: Which other responsibilities you have undertaken?
A:Mainly I have the responsibilities of being Founder chairman of Vishwas co-op bank limited, Nashik, Along with it I am director of National Federation of Urban co-op Banks & credit Socities (NFCUB), New Delhi and also of Nashik District Urban Co-op Bank’s Association, Nashik. I have been working as treasurer at Kusumagraj Prathishthan, Nashik, Vice president at Vasant Vyakhanmala, Nashik, Nominated member on regularity board of Maharashtra State Technical Education Board (MSBTE), Life member at Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan, Mumbai, Marathi Sahitya Parishad, Mumbai Cricket Association, Nashik District Cricket Association, India & Pakistan People’s Forum for peace & Democracy among many others.
