The India Outreach team recently put together the biggest community summit in India, the Google India Community Summit 2013. This summit brought together Google Business Group (GBG) Managers, Google Developer Group (GDG) Managers and Google Student Ambassadors (GSA) from across India for an intensive training on community management, and best practice sharing, product knowledge.

Google, believes students are the most creative, fearless, playful, curious, social, diverse, cutting-edge, bright, inspired, imaginative, and innovative human beings; everything that we aspire to be. Google wants to give the opportunity to create and implement unique ideas across the globe – all with their campuses and fellow students in mind. The Google Student Ambassador program is aligned with this belief. The GSA Program presents the opportunity for students to serve as liaisons between Google and their universities. These stellar students are equipped with training, resources and tools to hold events and bring awareness around Google products and programs on campus, while allowing for them to flex their creative & innovative muscles.

DSCF2396aVikram Bodke of Nashik, a young lad with great visions in life, took a step forward and under the guidance of his friends, family and professors applied for this program. After rigorous training and interviews, Vikram Bodke was tagged as the Google Student Ambassador, 2013.

The count reveal 500 colleges and their respective candidates, Nashik had 30 applications. Vikram was the representative of his college. This program began on 17th May, 2013 when Google approached colleges and universities to apply for the said program. 2600 applications were rolled out and the shortlisted candidates for interview were 1750. Many disappointed faces came along in this procedure. On the other hand, 3 students stepped out with flying colors and one of them was Vikram.

After the short listing process, Vikram got a call from one of the Googlers for a telephonic interview on 1st June, 2013. The interview went on for 45 long minutes where he was asked 4 to 5 hypothetical questions. He played smart and gave all that was expected. To this Vikram said,” To achieve this I prepared for almost 15 20 days and worked on my programmatic roll out. I knew that there are opportunities lying ahead and I put in my best foot forward.”

On the 1st of July he was awarded with the powerful label of Google Student Ambassador, 2013. The award ceremony took place in Hotel the Leela, Goa. There were dignitaries and Googlers from all over the globe. This was indeed a moment of immense pride and success for Vikram and his associates.
